Livin' It Up Law School Style

The First Year, They Scare You To Death;
The Second Year, They Work You To Death;
The Third Year, They Bore You To Death.

Glimpses into the oh-so-exciting life of a 3rd year student at LSU Law School

School's Started Back

Well, the 3rd year begins with a bang, here at LSU. We had Trial Advocacy for 3 days last week, which was 8 am to 6 pm practicing how to put on a trial. We learned how to conduct voir dire on potential jurors, how to give opening and closing statements, how to do direct, cross, and re-direct examination of witnesses, how to impeach witnesses, how to pose objections, and just about anything else you've seen done on Law & Order. It was a lot more fun than I thought it would be, but I'm glad it's over.

This semester, I'm taking Conflicts of Laws, Successions and Donations, Security Devices, International Litigation and Arbitration, and Advanced Trial and Evidence. Security Devices is going to be a total beast, and I've heard the exam for Int'l Lit & Arbitration is absolutely horrific, but I'll survive. I always do. At least I have Mengis for Successions - he rocks my socks off, and Advanced Trial and Evidence doesn't have an exam.

Conflics In Law...is that also known as Legal Ethics?

no, Conflicts of Laws is when you have to decide what law to apply ... like if a guy from TX gets in a car wreck in AL with a guy from MD, and the guy from TX files suit in MD court ... the MD court will probably apply AL law, because that's where the act causing harm occurred.

It's started, EP. Third year is when they surgically remove your sense of humor, along with your humanity.

Well, at least with an increased libido, you don't have to spend all your spare time studying . . . 8-)
